buccaneer should be dressed. So listen up ye filthy swabs! and
listen up good, 'cause if any one of ye dogs turns up at Whitehaven
in a grey coat an a blue bonnet, looking like a Covenanter. ye
Will get flung into the harbour, Aye! with weights tied to yer
feet an all, Damn yer eyes! So here be a quick guide to wot the
best dressed buccaneer will be wearing this season, Look'ee.
The period we are attempting to portray is approximately 1660s-1670s,
or the height of the Buccaneering era. Before the golden age of
piracy in the early 18th century, there was an even more bloodthirsty
phase of attacks in the Caribbean known as the Buccaneering era.
During the course of various European wars between the English,
French, Dutch and Spanish, Buccaneers launched devastating attacks
on the colonies and shipping of the Spainish main. Buccaneer leaders
such as Captain Morgan and Jean David Nau, "L'Olonnois",
carried out raids throughout the Caribbean basin, even launching
full scale invasions of the South American mainland. These raids
eventually brought the whole Spanish economy to its knees.
